Questo lavoro, edito oggi, in realtà era stato avviato molti anni fa, con la pubblicazione di alcuni lavori sul nostro periodico Argonauta. In quegli anni, una serie di difficili situazioni accompagnate da vari trasferimenti di sede dell’Associazione, avevano prodotto un brusco arresto alle nostre attività.
 Ciò nonostante, nuovo materiale ed informazioni, successivamente acquisite , hanno consentito di riprendere il lavoro anche alla luce di nuovi contributi di studio su questa Famiglia.
 A tal fine, desidero ringraziare tutti coloro che hanno permesso la realizzazione del presente lavoro. Senza i loro contributi non sarebbe stato possibile raccogliere e documentare tutto il materiale pubblicato.
 Esprimo il mio personale ringraziamento a Heritage Biodiversity Library, che ha prodotto un’opera di fondamentale importanza nel mondo delle scienze e tra i cultori della documentazione bibliotecaria, dalla quale abbiamo ritrovato alcune pagine di antiche descrizioni delle specie trattate, unitamente al altre della Biblioteca AMI.
 Un infinito grazie a U. Wieneke, H. Stoutjesdijk & P. Simonet Autori di www.stromboidea.de per la loro opera di monumentale revisione della Superfamiglia Stromboidea, dalla quale abbiamo tratto la ricostruzione coronologica dei sinonimi delle specie esaminate.
 Un personale ringraziamento al Dr. S.K. Naidu, della Stazione Marina di St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada, per l’invio di prezioso materiale fotografico e per il dono di rari esemplari provenienti da difficili aree dell’Oceano Atlantico settentrionale.
 La maggior parte degli esemplari dell’area mediterranea ed atlantica appartiene alla collezione AMI, altri all’ex Collezione Ciommei (oggi, AMI).  Per le aree del Canada settentrionale ringrazio, inoltre, R. Mayhew (Halifax, Canada) e J. Brandyberry (Elizabethtown, USA), che hanno contribuito con l’invio di notevole materiale, oggi nella Collezione AMI.

 This work, published today, was actually started many years ago, with the publication of some work on our magazine Argonauta. In those years, a series of difficult situations accompanied by various transfers of office of the Association, had produced an abrupt halt to our activities.
 However, new material and information that was acquired, allowed to resume work in the light of new contributions to the study of this Family.

 To this end, I wish to thank all those who have allowed the realization of this work. Without their contributions would not have been possible to collect and document all published material.
 I express my personal thanks to Biodiversity Heritage Library, which has produced a work of fundamental importance in the world of science and among lovers of documentation library, from which we found a few pages of ancient descriptions of the species treated together with other Library AMI.
