Alcune considerazioni

Fin dall'inizio dei lavori ci siamo confrontati con l'ottimo lavoro Atoll Bulletin Research No. 570 di JEAN TRONDLÉ AND MICHEL BOUTET pubblicato nel 2009, dal quale abbiamo estratto tutte le specie segnalate nelle Isole Tuamotu.
Nella pagina seguente ne riportiamo un elenco.
Abbiamo poi raccolto tutte le immagini, reperibili in internet e dai testi, relative al loro lavoro e ne abbiamo formato un prezioso database iconografico che ci ha accompagnati durante le ricerche nei vari atolli.
Dall'esame del loro lavoro abbiamo tratto alcune importanti conclusioni. Effettuando un confronto con il catalogo illustrato in questa monografia, e soprassedendo alle diversità nomenclaturali che non abbiamo voluto considerare, risulta evidente come ci siano molte specie non indicate per le Tuamotu e altre ancora non indicate per la Polinesia nella sua totalità.
Da un confronto inverso si deduce anche che sono ancora molte le specie da noi non reperite.
E’necessario concludere che sia ancora opportuno un grande lavoro di ricerca in questa interessantissima area malacologica del Pacifico. Molto c'è ancora da trovare e, sicuramente, molte specie nuove sono da studiare.
Infine, nella pagina della bibliografia si evince come il numero dei testi disponibili sia, complessivamente, scarso se confrontato con quelli disponibili per altre aree del mondo.
Sappiamo che i nostri amici Vincent Wargnier e Michel Balleton stanno preparando un importante lavoro sui molluschi polinesiani. Ci auguriamo che possa essere stampato e pubblicato al più presto. Sarà sicuramente un importante contributo alla concoscenza malacologica locale.

Some considerations

Since the start of work we compared the excellent Atoll Research Bulletin No. 570 of JEAN TRONDLÉ AND MICHEL BOUTET published in 2009, from which we extracted all the species reported in the Tuamotu Islands.

We then collected all the images, and texts available on the Internet, relating to their work and we formed a valuable iconographic database that we have always brought with us during the research in the various atolls.
Using their work we have drawn some important conclusions. By making a comparison with the fully illustrated catalog in this monograph, override the nomenclatural diversity that we have not wanted to consider, immediately apparent is that there are many species not listed in the Tuamotu Islands, and others not listed to Polynesia as a whole.
A comparison direction also suggest that there are still many species we do not find.
The conclusion, however, expected, is that it still requires a great job in this very interesting Pacific malacological area.
There is much still to be found and, of course, many new species to be studied.
Finally, the bibliography page shows how the number of available texts is, overall, poor when compared with those available for other areas of the world.

We know that our friends Vincent Wargnier and Michel Balleton are preparing an important work of Polynesian Molluscs. We hope it will be printed and published as soon as possible. It will certainly be an important contribution to knowledge of local malacology.
