Macularia niciensis (Fèrussac, 1821)

In Italia, dove lo scisto rosso cede alla roccia calcarea chiara, è possibile rinvenire le Macularia niciensis, ma non in qyuantità abbondane, solo qualche esemplare qua e là, arrivando invece in Francia in località Entrevaux, su una parete di roccia usata anche dagli appassionati di arrampicata, ne ho rinvenute in numero maggiore, non molte viventi aderenti alla parete, ma parecchie morte, a terra, piuttosto fresche.
In territorio italiano l’unico esemplare, reperito e in mio possesso, proviene da Airole in provincia di Imperia.
Ne ho trovate anche in qualche altra località vicino la valle del Roya, sempre in territorio francese, alcune, rare ed isolate lungo il corso del Roya, verso Saorge e zone limitrofe.
Non troppi decenni fa la specie era citata nei testi come molto comune, veniva trovata con frequenza anche sui tronchi degli olivi, Carlo Alzona, nel 1941, poco più di 70 anni fa, nel suo lavoro sulla variabilità della Macularia, parla dell’esame morfologico di centinaia di esemplari, a dimostrazione che non era certo una specie rara, oggi sembrerebbe praticamente scomparsa.
Io ho cercato accuratamente sia ad Airole, sia in numerosi altri posti in varie località liguri, sia sulle piante di olivo che sulle rocce , ma non ho trovato nessun esemplare, neanche morto.

Turning back to Italy, when the red shale limestone gives way to clear calcareous rocks, you start to find the Macularia niciensis, but not common, just some here and there, arriving Entrevaux instead of a rock wall also used by climbers, I have found in greater numbers, not many living adhering to the wall, but a lot of death, on the ground, pretty cool.

I have found in some other places down from Nizza to the valley of the Roya, always in French territory, some rare and isolated along the Roya, to Saorge and surrounding areas. Italian territory the only specimen in my possession is from Airole in the province of Imperia.
Not too many decades ago, the species was cited in the text as very common, was also frequently found on the trunks of trees, Carlo Alzona, in 1941, a little over 70 years ago, in his work on the variability of Macularia, speaks morphological examination hundreds of copies, proving that was not a rare species, it now seems virtually disappeared.

I tried carefully to both Airole, and in numerous other places in various Ligurian locations, both on olive trees or on the rocks, but I have found no examples, even dead.
