Murella nebrodensis (Pirajno, 1840)

Dalle note della Checklist italiana : “Marmorana (Murella) nebrodensis: Sono state descritte varie entità sottospecifiche, di validità estremamente dubbia. Locus tipico: Sommità delle Madonie. "L'ho trovata abbondante al Pizzo della Principessa, e sopra il Piano della Battaglia" Pirajno,1840". Quindi il locus tipicus sono i Monti Madonie (in provincia di Palermo) e non i Monti Nebrodi e Peloritani (in provincia di Messina). Il Pirajno chiamò la nuova specie delle Madonie con il nome di M. nebrodensis perché anticamente i monti Madonie venivano chiamati anche Nebrodi.
Questa è una specie molto variabile, sia dimensionalmente che come disegno, meno come scultura.
La zona che ritengo sia quella nella quale si rinvengono gli esemplari di questa specie è, a mio parere, la parte relativa alle Madonie, ma comprenderei anche quella che giunge fino alla costa, nella zona di Cefalù dove vive la forma bianca che non ha dai vari autori avuta una collocazione convincente essendo considerata M. globularis, M. nebrodensis e, sempre a mio parere, molto vicina anche ad alcune forme lisce di M. muralis.
Le considerazioni doverose che derivano dai lavori di Fiorentino et. al., sono anche nel caso di M. nebrodensis, assolutamente valide e pertanto la specie viene considerata in funzione delle modifiche tassonomiche che potranno verificarsi a seguito di tali studi.

From the notes of Italian Checklist: "Marmorana (Murella) nebrodensis: subspecific various entities have been described, of extremely doubtful validity. Locus typical: Summit Madonie. "I found plenty at Pizzo della Principessa, and on the Piano della Battaglia" Pirajno, 1840". So the locus tipicus are the Monti Madonie (in the province of Palermo) and not Nebrodi and Peloritani (in the province of Messina) . Pirajno called the new species of Madonie with the name of M. nebrodensis because once the Madonie mountains were also called Nebrodi.

This is a very variable species, both dimensionally and as design, much like sculpture.

The area that I think is one in which are found specimens of this species is, in my opinion, that portion of the Madonie, but also would understand that reaches the coast in the area of Cefalù where he lives the white form that does not have the various authors had convinced a location being considered M. globularis, M. nebrodensis and, in my opinion, also very close to some forms smooth, M. muralis.

The dutiful considerations arising from the work of Fiorentino et. al., are also in the case of M. nebrodensis, perfectly valid and therefore the species is considered as a function of taxonomic changes that may occur as a result of these studies.
