Our index dedicated to the philately collection on the theme of Malacology, will be divided into States and in this first number we will carry the issues of: the French Territories of AFARS and ISSAS.

AFARS and ISSAS

	Il Territorio francese degli Afars e degli Issas è diventato Gibuti nel 1977. Si installò un governo mono-partitico fino al 1999. L'agitazione fra la minoranza degli Afar durante gli anni 90 ha condotto ad una guerra civile che si è conclusa nel 2001 in seguito alla stesura di un accordo di pace fra i ribelli Afar ed il governo dominato dagli Issa. Djibouti occupa una posizione geografica molto strategica alla foce del Mar Rosso costituendo un punto importante di trasbordo per le merci che entrano e che lasciano gli altopiani africani orientali. The French territory of the Afars and Issas became Gibuti in 1977. A one party government was installed until 1999. The agitation between the minorities in Afar during the 90's led to a civil war that ended in 2001 following on the drawing up of an agreement of peace reached between the rebels and the dominant government of Issa. Djibouti occupies a most strategic geographic position at the mouth of the Red Sea, constituting an important point for the transport of goods entering and exiting from the highlands of East-Africa
