Raccogliere il detrito  Il primo impulso che si ha, quando si trova un buon accumulo di materiale, è quello di raccogliere tutto quel che si può prima che arrivi l'ora di andar via. E' facile capire che, per quanto tempo tu abbia, non potrai mai raccogliere tutto.  Se raccogli il detrito con una mano, usata come una paletta, asportando dal suolo uno strato superficiale di circa un centimetro, vedrai che in poco tempo avrai riempito una o più buste di materiale prezioso. Conviene anche raccogliere in diversi punti della spiaggia per avere più possibilità di trovare materiale diverso.  Scoprirai che le tue buste si sono riempite di sabbia piuttosto pesante e di sassi e legni ingombranti. Occorre effettuare un primo "trattamento" del tuo "tesoro". Vale la pena spendere qualche minuto per alleggerire il carico e migliorare la qualità del detrito. Porta sempre con te un bel pezzo di rete per zanzariere, meglio quelle in plastica, che userai per setacciare il tuo detrito.  Poni sopra la zanzariera un pezzo di rete con maglie da circa 2 cm. Tratterranno il materiale di diametro più grosso.  Ci versi sopra qualche chilogrammo di detrito e lo scuoti, mentre lo fai vedrai che i materiali più leggeri vengono in superficiee e con loro anche quelli di maggiori dimensioni. Ti sarà facile ora raccogliere questi "scarti" e gettarli riducendo di molto il peso e il volume del tuo raccolto. Mentre scuoti la rete una parte notevole della sabbia passerà attraverso i fori della rete e se ne andrà.
