Dalla Redazione

 Con la pubblicazione di questa monografia “ I molluschi della riserva della Biosfera del Comune di Fakarava” siamo costretti, con molto rammarico, a prendere commiato dal carissimo amico Libero che recentemente ci ha lasciati.
 Una vita dedicata alla Malacologia, ai viaggi ed alle ricerche in un area geografica così vasta e malacologicamente scarsa di contributi e di letteratura costituiscono un insieme tra lavoro e ricerche indissolubilmente legati a lui.
 La presente pubblicazione, oltre ad essere un omaggio ed un ricordo del suo immenso lavoro costituisce, forse, un altro passo verso un censimento delle specie marine che vivono in questa grande area oceanica dell’arcipelago delle Tuamotu.
 Il lavoro, le ricerche e tutto l’esame delle specie raccolte, coordinate da Libero Gatti, è stato frutto delle persone che hanno costituito l’equipe di ricerca nella Biosfera del Comune di Fakarava.
 Molto è stato fatto, ma il cammino è ancora lungo e la nostra speranza è che il suo lavoro non vada perduto e che nel futuro esista ancora la possibilità di continuare questo meraviglioso censimento delle specie marine di quest’area.

 With the publication of this monograph "The molluscs of the Biosphere Reserve of the Commune of Fakarava" we are compelled, with much regret, to take leave of the dear friend Libero who recently passed away.
 A life dedicated to the Malacology, on travel and research in a region so vast and malacologically lack of contributions and literature constitute a set of work and research inextricably linked to him.
 This publication, as well as being a tribute and a reminder of his immense work is perhaps another step toward a census of marine species that live in this great ocean area of the Tuamotu archipelago.
 The work, research and examination of all species collected, coordinated by Libero Gatti, was the result of people who have made the research team in the Biosphere of the Commune of Fakarava.
 Much has been done, but the road is still long and our hope is that his work is not lost and that in future there is still a chance to continue this wonderful census of marine species in this area.
