Le tre zone indicate nella pagina precedente, si protendono nel mare fino a circa quattro metri di profondità e, data la loro natura irregolarmente rocciosa, offrono rifugio a grandi quantità di alghe e animali marini. Quella centrale, situata di fronte alla Posta Vecchia (Palo Laziale - Roma), è particolarmente importante. Per una cinquantina di metri sotto l'edificio mostra una piattaforma prossima al livello del mare e la bassa profondità delle acque, cinquanta cento centimetri, mantiene calore, cibo e difese sufficienti tanto da esere un "incubatore naturale". Questo è il luogo di riproduzione della maggior parte della fauna marina locale. Questa caratteristica tipica dei fondali rocciosi non si presenta per molti chilometri a sud e a nord della zona illustrata. |
